Wilkinsburg area children celebrated the season with toys and gifts made possible by local law enforcement officers.
Constables4Kids held its second annual toy giveaway on Dec. 21, at Turner Elementary School.
Because of the success of the first toy give away in 2012, constable Lonzo Boyce said the constables decided to make this their signature event. The toys and gifts were 100 percent funded by the constables.
The toy giveaway aims to build a stronger and healthier relationship between constables and the community, Boyce said.
“Because of the nature of our jobs, many have the misconception that people in law enforcement don’t care about families in our communities.
Constables4Kids was started as a way to give back to the community and show people that we do care.”
More than 300 Wilkinsburg children received trucks, dolls, science kits, Beenie Babies and learning toys, while older children received jewelry, body lotions and colognes.
Adults enjoyed candy “and the smiles on the faces of the families said it all,” Boyce said.
