The Coro Center for Civic Leadership, Pittsburgh announced the award recipients and honorees for the 7th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership Awards. The event celebrated Martin Luther King Jr.’s values-based leadership, embraced by Coro, and honors the individuals and organizations in the region that lead from their values in the service of building a more inclusive democracy.
“Values-based leadership,” says Greg Crowley, president and CEO of Coro Pittsburgh, is all about “aligning your leadership with a higher purpose. Inspired by the work of Martin Luther King Jr., it’s a kind of leadership that we seek to encourage in young adults through the Coro civic leadership training program.
Three awards were presented, as follows: A distinguished individual leadership award was presented to Dean Williams, Director of The Formerly Convicted Citizens Project received the award. A distinguished Coro alumni leadership award was presented to Tom Baker, Chief Community Affairs Officer, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh. A distinguished organizational leadership award was presented to Assemble: A Community Space for Arts + Technology founded by Nina Marie Barbuto.
