On Feb. 22, at the Longue Vue Club, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Alpha Alpha Omega Chapter held their Annual Founders Day Celebration “Meeting The Challenges of Sisterhood and Service.” This was the 106th Founders Day for the sorority that was founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C., in 1908.
The afternoon was chaired by Tracy Elliott and Denyse Littles Cullens. Over 200 women, most dressed in black, the selected color of the day, and a few gents enjoyed a beautiful afternoon. Two moving musical selections were performed by Maureen Demus.
The keynote speaker was Denise Riley-Ajanwachuku, author of “Love and Love First.” She delivered a powerful message that centered on love being the key to successful partnerships and team dynamics. Aisha Upton, a K. Leroy Irvis Fellow, served as mistress of ceremony. Also on this afternoon, a $1,000 dollar LaRue Frederick Scholarship was presented to Jacquayla Jackson. The presentation was made by Arnita Butler.
The next day the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority worshiped at Homewood AME Zion church at the 10:30 AM Service.
