Bloomfield Development Corporation (BDC) will soon be bringing local produce, locally produced products, and a variety of entertainment and activities for the entire family to the new Bloomfield Saturday Market, set to launch May 31, 2014. The Bloomfield Saturday Market will be held every Saturday until Nov. 1 from 8am-1pm at 5050 Liberty Avenue, which is a parking lot owned by West Penn Hospital.

“The Bloomfield Saturday Market will be a great event, while also providing residents with the opportunity to purchase good, healthy food,” said BDC board chairperson Joey Vallarian. “Community health, both the health of the brick and mortar neighborhood, as well as the health of it’s residents, is very important to the BDC, and we think the Bloomfield Saturday Market will help accomplish these goals.”

Heading up the initiative for the BDC is the newly hired Christina Howell, the program manager of the planned Bloomfield Saturday Market. Her experience in community development and event planning includes outreach for Mount Washington Community Development Corporation, where she planned and executed three very different events last year. Additionally, she managed Pedal Pittsburgh 2008 for the Design Center and recently served as board president for the Pittsburgh Toy Lending Library.

“Christina’s experience managing a variety of events coupled with her passions for Bloomfield and community building make her a natural partner for the BDC as we launch the first year of the Bloomfield Saturday Market,” said Shelly Majcen, Executive Director of the BDC.

The BDC is currently accepting applications from farmers and vendors for the Saturday Market. Interested vendors should visit www.bloomfieldsaturdaymarket.org or contact Christina Howell at christina@bloomfieldnow.com or 412-708-1277 for more information.
