Community Empowerment Association held a community meeting to address President Obama’s “My Brother’s Keeper Initiative” recently. The initiative is for the Black community to come together to help young Black boys and young Black men adjust and cope with the many pressures and problems they must face through education, employment and mentoring.
State Representatives Jake Wheatley and Ed Gainey spoke at the event.
“President Obama’s Initiative My Brother’s Keeper has been awarded over 200 million dollars to address issues impacting Black Boys and Young Men,” said Rashad Byrdsong, president and CEO of the CEA. “He has bought together Corporations, Government, Foundations, Businesses and Communities to form a task force, this coalition through cooperation and coordination well ensures an equitable distribution of resources and services earmark to the most impacted inner city neighborhoods.
I think this is a great model to develop here in Pittsburgh. We are calling you to come out and participate in this discussion on developing a strategic plan in saving our most precious asset Young Black Boys.”
