March 22, at the Doubletree by Hilton Meadowlands, the Black Association of South Hills (BASH) for Woman presented “Cruising Again” their annual Scholarship Luncheon. Just to put the sold out crowd into perspective, over $2,000 was raised for the 50/50 raffle. That means that one person went home with more than $1,000 just by having lunch.
Yours truly served as the cruise director for an afternoon that was full of shopping with vendors, photo opportunities with Pink Lady Photos and a delightful fashion show with fashions perfect for cruising from Chico’s–Galleria Mall, Mount Lebanon. Pricilla Bwalia, Amber Benjain Nesbepth, Brandy Branson Whitehead, Wanda Spervcer and Ebony White were the 2014 BASH models and deejays B. Mack and G. Walton provided the soundtrack. It was a fun afternoon that raised money for the BASH scholarship program.
BASH President Waverly Nesmith welcomed the large crowd while Joy Baker led the Negro National Anthem. Minister Bernice Carson blessed the occasion and the meal, and the day was closed by Mabel Lee, BASH vice president, and Mary Jenkins.
The Black Association of South Hills for Women was founded in 1978 by 11 women of color who intuitively saw the need for new residents to be introduced to other African-American families in the South Hills community. The women united both old and new residents to form a solid group of conscientious and creative women.
