OAKDALE, Pa. (AP) — President Barack Obama says it’s more urgent than ever for the U.S. to move forward on job training.
Obama and Vice President Joe Biden are trumpeting $600 million in new competitive grants to spur creation of targeted training and apprenticeship programs that could help people land well-paying jobs.
Obama says not all of today’s good jobs require a four-year college degree. But he says there are no jobs that will pay a lot without specialized training. He says the nation’s best bet is to keep ahead in the global skills race.
Obama says if you’re willing to put in the work, America’s job training system should give you every opportunity.
Obama and Biden are announcing the funds at a community college in the western Pennsylvania borough of Oakdale.
