Community Conversation
MAY 1—The Heinz Endowment and its African American Men and Boys Advisory Board will host A Community Conversation from 6-8 p.m. at the Hill House Association, Kaufmann Center, 1825 Centre Ave., Hill District. The topic will be “Planting Seeds of Change: The Community as a Garden” featuring Ron Finley, Urban Gardening Crusader. A panel discussion will also take place. Human Rights Dinner    
MAY 1—The Pittsburgh Unit of the NAACP will host its 60th Annual Human Rights Dinner at 6 p.m. at the Westin Convention Center Hotel, 1000 Penn Ave., Downtown. The evening will include a keynote address from Compton, Calif., Mayor Aja Brown, along with a presentation of honors to Alma Speed Fox, Cecile Springer, Charles Powell and Sabrina Saunders. Go Red Luncheon/Conference
MAY 2—The American Heart Association will host its Annual Go Red For Women Luncheon & Conference at 9 a.m. at the Westin Convention Center Hotel, 1000 Penn Ave., Downtown. The annual event will offer a free health fair with screenings and breakout sessions from 9 a.m.-12 p.m., followed by a heart healthy lunch and presentation featuring keynote speaker Andrea Metcalf, national healthy lifestyle expert and trainer. First Friday Fantasy
MAY 2—Champion Enterprises, The United Rays Corvette Club and the Turning Corners Youth Organization will host the First Friday Fantasy from 8 p.m.-2 a.m. at Brewstone Restaurant, William Penn Highway, Monroeville. MAY 3—Dollar Bank will host its Mortgages For Mothers Workshop at 9 a.m. at the Sheraton Station Square, 300 W. Station Square Dr., South Side. This free workshop, featuring Lynne Hayes-Freeland, will tell attendees how to own their own home and give information on grant money for closing costs; credit counseling and restoration programs; affordable mortgage and down payment options and more.
