PITTSBURGH (AP) – The principal at Pittsburgh Roosevelt grade school in Carrick tells parents that a fourth-grade girl has been caught smoking marijuana in a school restroom.
Pittsburgh Public Schools officials aren’t identifying the girl, who was taken to a hospital after she reported feeling ill after she was caught on Thursday.
Acting principal Anthony Pipkin wrote in a letter to parents that other students told staff that the girl was smoking the drug. Pipkin says the girl told school officials she brought the marijuana joint and cigarette lighter from home.
A police spokeswoman could not immediately say whether the girl’s parents or guardians might face charges in connection with the incident.
The girl was treated and released from the hospital and school district officials say she’ll face disciplinary action.
No other students were affected or harmed.
