Allegheny County police are still looking for the gunmen who shot a pregnant Duquesne teen, killing her unborn baby overnight Monday morning.
DaRae Delgado, 15, was shot four times on May 26 at her home in the 100 block of Friendship Street, in Duquesne, when she answered a knock at the front door. She was seven months pregnant.
According to reports, a person rang the doorbell and put their hand over the peephole so that they couldn’t be seen. When Delgado opened the door she was hit several times with bullets,  with at least one hitting the baby. She was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital, where she still remains and is expected to recover. The baby, who was a boy, died.
Deanna Weams, Delgado’s mother, told another news outlet that doctors told her the baby saved Delgado because the bullet hit the baby and slowed down.
There are still no motives or suspects.
Delgado’s twin brother, Darrell Delgado, was in the house at the time of the shooting.
“I heard the door, and I came to the top of the steps,” he said. “She opened the door, and I saw the sparks and gunshots go off.”
Allegheny County police haven’t identified any suspects or made any arrests.
“Absent a motive, we are moving in several different directions,” Lt. Andrew Schurman said.
Investigators said the person or people who fired the shots fled the scene on foot. Police said they believe three people may have been involved in the shooting but did not disclose additional details.
Schurman asked that anyone who saw or heard anything please call the county Homicide Division at 412-473-1300.
