Last year 6,314 men visited Pittsburgh Public Schools on Take A Father to School Day. As the annual celebration grows, Pittsburgh Public Schools Board Member Mark Brentley, the day’s founder, invited all men to the 16th Annual Take a Father to School Day celebration. This year’s theme was “Healthy Man, Healthy Child” and fathers in attendance received information about healthy living.
The day was filled with exciting activities including breakfast at Pittsburgh Obama 6-12 with Brentley and Pa. State Rep. Ed Gainey, who joined his daughter, Mariah. Representative Gainey also spoke at Pittsburgh Faison’s “Donuts for Dads” Session and Super Bowl Champion Darnell Dinkins addressed fathers at Pittsburgh Langley K-8. There was a special presentation at Pittsburgh Dilworth.
Drummers performed on the school’s front lawn with the Balafon African Drum and Dance Ensemble. In alignment with this year’s theme, Pittsburgh Conroy had Mario Browne, director of the Office of Health Sciences Diversity at the University of Pittsburgh. Browne discussed his barbershop talk and bike riding programs.
With the older students at schools like Pittsburgh Carrick, Perry and Westinghouse, activities were held in the afternoon, which included lunch with fathers and group activities.
In celebration of dads, the Pittsburgh Power donated 3,000 tickets to last Saturday’s game against the Los Angeles Kiss.
