Pittsburgh, PA – The Bloomfield Developement Corporation (BDC) is proud to announce the opening of the new Bloomfield Saturday Market on Saturday, May 31, held from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the West Penn Hospital parking lot at 5050 Liberty Avenue between South Winebiddle and Gross Streets.
Featuring approximately 20 farmers, local food producers, prepared food vendors and artists, the Bloomfield Saturday Market is free and open to the public and will run rain or shine for 23 consecutive Saturdays.  Highlighting the extensive variety of vendors is Freedom Farms, which is featured on the Great American Country channel’s hit reality series Farm Kings.  Other notable merchants include DJ’s Butcher Block, Healcrest Urban Farm, Zeke’s Coffee and The Pittsburgh Pie Guy.
“The Bloomfield Saturday Market is at the forefront of a growing trend linking community health and community development,” said the BDC’s Program Manager Christina Howell.  “I’m fortunate to have the opportunity to build this market and to share my passion for the community in which I live.  We are extremely excited about the market and its possibilities.”
Sponsored by West Penn Hospital and Highmark, the Bloomfield Saturday Market will also feature varying programming, as well as Allegheny Health Network giving away Pittsburgh Pirates tickets at each market. The Market’s website, www.bloomfieldnow.com, will be constantly updated with all programming times.  The entertainment/demonstration schedule so far includes:
· First Saturday of the month – Music at the Market – family-friendly concerts by local artists
· Second Saturday of the month – Get Moving – demonstrations and the opportunity to join in a variety of exercise types.
· Third Saturday of the month – Live Well – explore everything from home renovation resources to nutrition and massage, capped off with our Harvest Fair on Oct. 18.
· Fourth Saturday of the month – Safety First – featuring different emergency service providers and their vehicles in addition to smoke detector giveaways, child safety seat checks and bike safety checks.
