Over the years we have read stories about the positive actions of a multitude of courageous Black women. We generally put more focus on individuals who do not reside locally, but those who live across the country. Is it because we believe we know each other so well?
In last week’s column I closed it out with an incident that left an impression that I will never forget. It had to do with a Black woman slapping a Black man for opposing a White candidate, Mr. Charlie.
This week’s column is about a Black female, B.J. Sampson, who is courageous, bright, well educated, articulate, God fearing and possesses an unbelievable sense of dedication particularly when it involves Black people. B.J. filed for the position of Chair of Allegheny County Democratic Party, the election will be held June 14, 2014. Only democratic committee persons can cast a ballot. She is not only the first Black woman but also the first Black person to file for this important position. She can’t be elected by only Black votes, but the Black vote can have tremendous influence on the outcome. There are a number of Blacks who are committee persons in the Democratic Party and they can become a driving force to convince their White counterparts that it is long overdue for the Allegheny County Democratic Party to elect a dedicated, committed Black committeewoman. I understand that some of these Black persons have a great reluctance to support her, because of that old slave mindset “she can’t win”. B.J. definitely can’t win if she fails to run.
