HOMEWOOD AMEZ CHURCH SENIOR MISSIONARY SOCIETY

On April 26, the Senior Missionary Society #1 of the Homewood AMEZ Church invited ladies to join them on a journey of the history of hats by paying a visit to the “Chic Chapeaux.”
In this mini play, ladies paid a visit to their favorite hat store and learned about the various styles of hats while modeling their own.
From the fedora to the cloche to the Pill Box and the military inspired caps, ladies have always loved hats.
Held the Saturday before the Kentucky Derby, the ladies were eager to see that wide brim hat that is so popular on Derby Day.
In 2011 the Fascinator was reintroduced to the fashion world by Kate Middleton and her royal wedding.
For a while hats took a back seat to wigs and now the weave has pushed the hat aside. But there are still those unique ladies that wear hats so well.
After a warm welcome from first lady Debra Dennison, guests enjoyed two musical selections from Anthony Mitchell of Mt. Ararat Baptist Church. Once the hat store was closed, it was time for tea.
This year’s tea pourers were Blanche Butler and Lilly Matthews. Guests also enjoyed a surprise guest, Marlene Davis. Davis gave a beautiful demonstration on how to do an African head wrap.
