PITTSBURGH (AP) – A Pittsburgh couple has been jailed on child endangerment charges after police say they left the woman’s 2-year-old boy outside in a hot, parked car while they drank in a Homewood bar.
Police say when someone called to report seeing the boy in the car about 12:45 a.m. Wednesday that it was still 80 degrees with 70 percent humidity outside. Officers reported finding the boy slumped over and unresponsive in the car. He’s since been taken to a hospital and is expected to recover.
Online court records don’t list attorneys for the boy’s mother, 30-year-old Terri Hymes, of Homewood, or the boy’s stepfather, 27-year-old Archie Howard.
Both were also charged with public drunkenness as police say Hymes left the bar and tried to drive away in the car as police were waiting for paramedics.
Fire destroys eatery once owned by Pirates’ Rooker
AMBRIDGE, Pa. (AP) – A state police fire marshal was investigating a blaze that destroyed a western Pennsylvania restaurant once owned by Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Jim Rooker.
The business formerly known as Rook’s East Side Saloon in Ambridge was reported on fire about 1 a.m. Wednesday. It was destroyed, along with some apartments above the business about 25 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.
Nobody was in the apartments, and nobody else was injured in the blaze.
Officials say the business reopened as a Mexican restaurant under new ownership in May. It was called Rook’s Cantina 505.
The cause of the fire was not immediately determined.
Police: Robbers take pepperoni roll, soda from man
NEW CASTLE, Pa. (AP) – Police are hoping surveillance video will help them catch two men who robbed two others on a western Pennsylvania street, taking a pepperoni roll and a soda pop from one of the victims.
Police in New Castle, about 45 miles northwest of Pittsburgh, say the victims were accosted about 12:40 a.m. Tuesday while walking south in the business district.
That’s when police say one of the suspects approached, punching one of the victims in the mouth. After that happened, a second man produced a gun and demanded the men empty their pockets of any valuables.
That’s when the robbers took the food from one victim and $40 from another
