NEW ORLEANS (AP) — To mark the 20th celebration of the Essence Festival, organizers said they wanted the milestone anniversary to be as special or better than anything anyone had ever experienced. And, who better to help make that happen than Prince.
Essence Communications president Michelle Ebanks says Prince returns to the Superdome’s center stage Friday night for a highly anticipated performance shrouded by a bit of purple haze.
She says it’s a mystery as to what Prince will do. She says they turned over all the details to him.
What is known is that singer Janelle Monae will perform as will Nile Rodgers, lead guitarist and co-founder of the 1980s band Chic.
