Basketball Camp
JULY 23—Kevin Murphy will host the Drew Bracey Henderson Memorial Basketball Camp at the McKeesport Salvation Army, 821 Walnut St., McKeesport. This camp, which runs through July 25, is a positive alternative for kids. It is held in honor of Henderson who was gunned down at a sweet 16 party in Duquesne. Ages 7-11 will be from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. and ages 12-18 will be from 12:30-2:30 p.m. This is free. For more information, email kmurphy80@aol.com.
Community Walk
JULY 23—Take Action Mon Valley! will host its Community Walks at 7 p.m. at Crawford Village at the Pavillion, McKeesport. There will also be walks held on July 30 and a community event on Aug. 23 from 2-4 p.m. This is a community take back. For more information, email electfawnwalker@gmail.com.
St. Clair Village Reunion
JULY 25—St. Clair Village will host its 20th Reunion Celebration. The three-day event will include a Boat Ride on the Gateway Clipper. Proceeds will benefit the SCV scholarship fund. For more information, call Lou Shealey at 412-302-6254.
Enrichment Lecture Seminar
JULY 26—Seshemet Community Council will host its Enrichment Study Group Lecture Series 2014 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the CCAC Homewood Brushton Center, 701 N. Homewood Ave., Homewood. The topic will be “Refocusing the Black Liberation Struggle for 21ST Century Victory: Asymmetrical Struggle is a Pathway to Sovereignty Restoration” with Dr. Uhuru Hotep of the Kwame Ture Leadership Institute. Ride For Peace
JULY 26—Iron Cross Community Ministries will host its 6th Annual Ride For Peace Motorcycle Ride at 12 p.m. at Three Rivers Harley Davidson, 1463 Glenn Ave., Glenshaw, Pa. The event will begin at Three Rivers Harley Davidson and end at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, in East Liberty, where there will be a celebration after the ride. Over 200 motorcycles will be coming together in the name of unity and riding through the neighborhoods where there have been issues of violence. Town Hall Meeting
JULY 31—State Rep. Ed Gainey will host “Education vs. Incarceration: A Town Hall Meeting with state Rep. Ed Gainey” from 6-8 p.m. at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Homewood-Brushton Branch, 7107 Hamilton Ave., Homewood. Black Family Reunion
JULY 31—Community Empowerment Association Inc. will host the Black Family Reunion & Cultural Weekend at the CEA Arts, Culture, Training Institute, 7120 Kelly St., Homewood. The theme for the four-day event is “Quest for Social-economic Justice and Equality-Improving the Quality of Life for the Black Family.” This is a weekend of great food, music, information, health screenings, discussions and fun for the entire family. There will be a Hip-Hop Concert, a Basketball Tournament, Workshops, a White Party and a concert in Schenley Park with Con Funk Shun and Howard Hewitt. Unity Day Gathering
AUG. 2—The Northside Old Timers will host its 8th Annual Unity Day Gathering in West Park, North Ave., North Side. The two-day event will include a Children’s March Against Violence and Praise in the Park. No alcohol or open grills are permitted in the park. For more information, call 412-238-8630.
