Defending Olympic women’s gymnastics champion Gabby Douglas is back in training but won’t return to competition until next year.
Douglas, who split with longtime coach Liang Chow last month, is working with Kittia Carpenter at Buckeye Gymnastics in Columbus, Ohio.
The 18-year-old Douglas won the all-around title at the 2012 games in London while also helping Team USA to its second Olympic title. She returned to training in April and had planned on competing in all four events at nationals at the U.S. Championships in Pittsburgh this month.
Douglas told The Associated Press on Friday she spoke to U.S. women’s team coordinator Martha Karolyi and decided it was best to spend the rest of this year putting together new routines with Carpenter.
