A federal judge was arrested in downtown Atlanta for beating up and kicking his wife, including pulling her hair, pushing her down, punching her in the face and dragging her around the room.
U.S. District Judge Mark Fuller Mark Fuller, appointed by former Pres. George W. Bush, was granted bond Monday after being charged with battery on his wife at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in downtown Atlanta on Saturday evening.
Police say the victim greeted police in tears with “visible lacerations to her mouth and forehead” and obbserved broken glass, a “strong odor” of alcohol and strands of hair on the floor.
The wife told authorities that Fuller “pulled her to the ground by her hair and kicked her after she confronted him about having an affair with his clerk. She said he then pulled her around the room by her hair and hit her in the mouth.
Fuller countered by telling police the fight began after the victim confronted him about an alleged affair with his law clerk and threw a glass at him. When she became violent, he grabbed her by the hair and threw her to the ground to defend himself, Fuller told police.
Police noted there were “no marks, bruises or lacerations” on Fuller’s body.
The stepson, authorities said, heard the two arguing loudly earlier in the evening, and he told police “this was not the first time” an incident like this occurred.
In 2006, Fuller presided over the trial of former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman and HealthSouth CEO Richard Scrushy. He was appointed by President George W. Bush in 2002.
This is not Fuller’s first encounter with domestic abuse allegations. In 2012, the Reporters Committee for the Freedom of the Press reported that a Montgomery circuit judge sealed Fuller’s divorce records, which were “wrought with accusations of domestic violence, drug abuse and the judge’s alleged affair with his court bailiff.”
