PITTSBURGH, PA, – 91.3 WYEP will pay homage to Woodstock throughout the weekend of August 15, 2014, marking the 45th anniversary of a seminal event in the history of rock and roll and the countercultural movements of the 1960s.
Woodstock Music & Art Fair  brought an audience of over 400,000 to Max Yasgur’s Farm in New York’s Catskill Mountains on August 15, 1969 for a weekend of music featuring the greatest bands and artists of the time, from Johnny Winter and Janis Joplin to Jefferson Airplane and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Richie Havens and Joan Baez performed; there were appearances by Santana, Sly and the Family Stone, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Band, The Who, The Grateful Dead, and more.
Throughout the anniversary weekend, WYEP will run a series of short, on-air features that will share facts, dispel myths, and play music performed at the original Festival. Each segment will feature audio clips from and related to the festival. Everything starts on Friday, August 15, in the 5:00 p.m. hour, 45 years from the moment Richie Havens  inaugurated the Festival with an epic, career-making, 3-hour performance. The features will conclude, as did the original Festival, on Monday morning, August 18,  during The Morning Mix (6 a.m. – 10 a.m.) coinciding with the 45th anniversary of the final three performances of Woodstock by the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Sha-Na-Na, and Jimi Hendrix.
91.3 WYEP’s Woodstock Anniversary features were created and produced by Mike Sauter, the station’s Director of Programming and Content.
