FERGUSON, Mo. — The police chief of the notorious and infamous Ferguson Police Department has identified the police officer who shot and killed Michael Brown in a housing project in the St. Louis suburb that touched off a weeklong of protests, arrests and police confrontations.
Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson has identified the police officer who shot Michael Brown as Darren Wilson, a six-year veteran of the department who the chief says has no record of discipline or transgressions during his tenure within the department.
The chief was answering to the Sunshine Request by the media which required him to give up the name of the officer. But Wilson declined to give much information beyond the name and his length of service, nor answered any question from the battery of reporters present. He said Wilson was treated for injuries on that Saturday.
Wilson also gave a timeline of events on Aug. 9, 2014 that said a strong-armed robbery took place in proximity in time and location to the housing project where Brown was shot and killed. The inference was obvious: the chief was trying to say — without really saying it — that Brown may have been involved in the robbery which was why he was allegedly stopped by officer Wilson on that fateful day.
Why Jackson chose this manner of information dissemination has mystified media members who are on the scene in St. Louis County.
