PITTSBURGH (AP) – The man accused of shooting and paralyzing a Pittsburgh police officer is going to prison, possibly for six decades.
A jury convicted James Robert Hill of all counts Monday.
Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge David Cashman sentenced Hill to 30 years and 9 months in prison, up to a maximum of 61 and-a-half years.
Authorities say Officer Morgan Jenkins was on patrol last year when he gave chase to a speeding Hill and then traded gunfire after Hill crashed and fled on foot. The 25-year-old Hill was a fugitive after escaping from a halfway house in 2012.
Hill’s sister, Charlotte Hill, tells the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review (https://bit.ly/1w21NqO ) that she’s unhappy with the verdict and her brother will appeal. Jenkins says he’s been out of work since the April 11, 2013, shooting.
