While you were working, the Pirates were putting in work! There is no greater feeling than when the Pirates play to their potential and beast their opponents, even when the odds are against them. It gives the city hope.
The Pittsburgh Pirates are proving to be fighters. They are trying to implant that proven, battle tested, gene that doesn’t care what the series record is or the score of a game. Currently, St. Louis (71-61) leads the NL wild-card race, with San Francisco (69-62) trailing by 1 1/2 games and the Pirates (69-64) one game back of the Giants for the second wild-card berth. The Pirates are showing signs of the grit necessary to make a deep postseason run.

Ike Davis did not shrink in the moment. Instead, he singlehandedly decided to make a lasting impression on his teammates and city. ”It’s the first time he’s been involved in games that have this kind of significance this late in the season,” Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said after Davis’ long home run sparked a 3-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.
”He’s showing up to the ballpark ready to contribute any way he can.”  He played like an All-Star during the series. He had a three run home run for the win on Tuesday and a two run home run on Wednesday.
For the Pirates, it doesn’t matter that the first game on Monday was a heartbreaking, discouraging loss. They came back and won a close battle on Tuesday and finished up the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday. It was a tough, hard battle and Pirates didn’t “gift” the series away after their first loss.
With the latest win, the Pittsburgh Pirates won the series 2-1 from the defending NL champions and they have won five of seven overall against St. Louis. The best part about the win was that it was against the St. Louis Cardinals. Pirates’ fans loathe them.
We are happy to win any series but to win against the St. Louis Cardinals was especially satisfying. It was like deciding to go to Kennywood amusement park and learning that its buy one get one free day. Delicious!
The Pirates are in the pennant race and gaining speed. Let’s go!
