Lunch & Learn
    OCT. 9—The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host its Lunch & Learn Series at 12:15 p.m. at the Downtown & Business Branch, 612 Smithfield St., Downtown. The topic will be “Small Business Legal Assistance.” Keith Whitson of Schnader Harrison Segal& Lewis LLP will discuss how The Pro Bono Center’s attorney volunteers can assist small business owners with a variety of legal needs for the business. Start-up Funding Workshop
    OCT. 10—The Center for Women’s Entrepreneurship at Chatham University will host “Start-up Funding: A Breakfast Series Event” from 8-9:30 a.m. at Chatham University, James Laughlin Music Hall, Woodland Rd., Shadyside. Learn about the Small Business Association loans and profit financing available for women entrepreneurs who are just starting out or need capital to grow. There will be a panel of experts, followed by individual discussion sessions with representatives from the SBA and local nonprofit lenders. Social Media Series Session I
    OCT. 10—The Duquesne University Small Business Development Center will host the “Social Media Series: LinkedIn and Facebook for Business to Business Sales Session 1” at Duquesne University, Rockwell Hall, 600 Forbes Ave., Uptown. The first of the three-session series will focus on developing an easy-to-follow social media plan for increasing sales, along with provide an overview of social media; the general rules to follow when using social media; and useful stats on Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, blogs and more. Construction Training
    OCT. 11—Cosmo Technology Inc. and the Dollar and Sense Ministry of Rodman Street Missionary Baptist Church will host an OSHA 10-hour Construction Training from 9 a.m.-3p.m. at Rodman, 6111 Rodman St., East Liberty. Individuals will leave this two-session training prepared for local construction jobs; be trained on the recognition, avoidance, abatement and prevention of safety hazards; and receive a Department of Labor 10-hour card with a passing score. The Second Step
    OCT. 15—The University of Pittsburgh Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence’s will host “ The Second Step: Developing a Business Plan” from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Carnegie Library of Homestead, 510 E. 10th Ave., Munhall. Attendees will learn about operational and production planning, conducting market research and creating financial planning spreadsheets to attract funding for one’s business.
