HARRISBURG, Oct. 8 – State Reps. Ed Gainey and Jake Wheatley, D-Allegheny, issued the following statements regarding two recent homicides by shooting in the city of Pittsburgh:
“It’s a devastating situation when we lose young lives like what has happened this week. My thoughts and prayers go out to their families,” Gainey said. “I’m encouraging anybody with any information about these shootings to please come forward. We need to make sure that our children are protected and we must do that as a community. We must continue to come together as a community to end this senseless violence. Our kids are our greatest asset, so let’s make sure we do everything we can to protect them. A community that stands up can bring change. Let’s stand up for these two lives, and the others who have died. This situation deserves the full attention of everyone in the community.”
Wheatley said, “Enough is enough with these unnecessary killings of our children. We can no longer stand or sit idly by and allow these things to happen without an aggressive and immediate response! I would like to continue to work collaboratively with our social agencies, educational institutions and others to create an environment of excellence, cultural relevancy, and empowerment, where we would not need a response but rather be proactive in preventing these types of cowardly acts from occurring, especially as it relates to our children!”
