At The Finish Line…Where Only the Truth Matters

BILL NEAL

• Here’s some truth for ya. If you go into a hospital emergency room in Dallas, Texas, don’t let them tell you it’s only a rash and send you home.  Especially if you just flew in from Africa.
• Anyone that ever played a team sport knows they wouldn’t hesitate, not one second, to go after a teammate’s record. Done . . . and done!
• Not that I’m being critical, and I am not really, after all, I know some of the guys and a few of them are friends, but do you notice how the sports talk show hosts in this city all sound alike. They all tend to think and say the same things over and over and over. This city needs some new perspective on air.  Some voice of a different experience if you will . . . some color . . . some female . . . you know!  Stay tuned a change is coming.
• Speaking of which when will there ever be a sports hour live in Homewood or the Hill or East Liberty or North View Heights instead of Downtown, or Robinson or Fox Chapel!?!?
• Don’t miss the 70’s / 80’s Boogie Down Par-Tay Saturday, October 11th at the Central North Side Banquet Hall, 302 West North Avenue.  Down the street from Allegheny General Hospital.  Call for a ticket in advance. They’re about sold out.  It’s BYOB cabaret style.  $20 at the door.  Call Rob Robinson at 780-7933.
• The reason the Steelers throw more than they run when they’re in the Red Zone is because that’s what Ben wants to do.  That’s what all quarterbacks want to do.  C’mon man!  Run the ball!
• If, and I do mean if Adrian Peterson’s name was Alex Smith, he would have gone to court for beating his son in an abusive manner.  Fined, put on probation, given community service and he would be back to work at Wal-Mart by now, whether he smoked “some weed” or not and you know that’s the truth.
• When will we all start telling the truth about the NCAA?  When will we stop turning our heads to the silent power of the NCAA mafia.  Where are they really?  Who collects all the money?  Where does all the money go?  How can they tell your son or mine that he can’t make money off his own name, but they can?  I hope Georgia running back Todd Gurley and others like him can stand up to the shadows of the double standards of the NCAA and defend your right to profit by your own name!
• It’s been a long wait, but it’s here.  Block your calendar for Saturday, December 13th and plan to be at the new and magnificent Blue Line Grill for the first ever Achieving Greatness Awards, featuring the Willie Stargell Pittsburgh MVP Awards, the Celebrating Women Awards, the Connie Hawkins League Hall of Fame Inductions and The Pittsburgh City League Hall of Fame Inductions, 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m., Roof Top Celebration, $25, cash bar, cash kitchen.  This is gonna be big!!!
