TARENTUM, Pa. (AP) – Sears says it is closing its Sears Grand store at a mall near Pittsburgh, idling 97 workers there.
The store is located at the Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills in Frazer Township. That’s about 20 miles northeast of Pittsburgh along Route 28.
The mall has struggled with vacancies and minuscule foot traffic.
The retail giant’s spokesman, Howard Riefs, says the mid-January closing is part of the chains efforts to “accelerate the transformation of our business model.”
The store will begin a liquidation sale Oct. 31.
Employees will receive a severance package and can apply for jobs at other Sears and Kmart stores.
