Breast Cancer Education/Screening
OCT. 25—Primary Health Care Services Inc. will host its Crucial Catch Day Community Health Event from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church, 271 Paulson Ave., East Liberty. The event will provide women with free breast cancer education and screenings. This is a family-friendly event that includes an open dialogue with survivors and medical doctors who have made the journey through breast cancer. Gateway Medical Society Gala
OCT. 25—Gateway Medical Society will host its annual Gala at the Marriott City Center, 112 Washington Place, Uptown. The evening will honor Dr. Steven Evans and Dr. Anita Edwards as its “Oswald J. Nickens, MD” Physicians of the Year. Also, there will be a scholarship presentation and an introduction of the youth from the Society’s Journey to Medicine program. Step Afrika!
OCT. 25—The Center for Organ Recovery & Education along with the University of Pittsburgh’s Office of Health Sciences Diversity will host Step Afrika! At 7:30 p.m. at the University of Pittsburgh’s Alumni Hall, 4227 Fifth Ave., Oakland. Enjoy the fast-paced dance steps and energetic sounds of Step Afrika! As they perform African step dancing to commemorate the upcoming National Donor Sabbath. Brenda Waters of KDKA-TV will be the mistress of ceremonies. This event is free and open to the public. Racial Justice Awards Luncheon
OCT. 29—The YWCA of Greater Pittsburgh will host its 23rd Annual Racial Justice Awards Luncheon from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Westin Convention Center Hotel, 1000 Penn Ave., Downtown. Several local heroes will be recognized for their efforts to promote equality, freedom and justice. Appreciation Dinner Dance
NOV. 1—Purpose of Life will host its First Annual Appreciation Dinner Dance from 5-11 p.m. at the Monroeville Doubletree Convention Center, 101 Mall Blvd., Monroeville. Masquerade Party
NOV. 1—Jones and Jones will host “A Night at the Cotton Club” Masquerade Party from 8 p.m.-1 a.m. at Sahara Temple, 214 Seventh Ave., and Braddock. This is a 1920s. ‘30s and 40s themed party; masks are not required. Sly Jock will provide music. There will be a cash bar/kitchen, a 50/50 raffles, contests and more. NOV. 1—The Parent Education and Advocacy Leadership Center will host its Annual Inclusion Awards Dinner at the Lemont Restaurant, 1114 Grandview Ave., and Mt. Washington. The dinner brings attention to the importance of inclusion in the community and recognizes outstanding community champions of inclusion. Go Red Fashion Show
NOV. 13—The American Heart Association will host its 2014 Go Red For Women Fashion Show at 7:30 p.m. at the Westin Convention Center Pittsburgh Hotel, 1000 Penn Ave., Downtown. The theme is “Fierce, Fit, Fabulous.” Enjoy an evening of fashion and inspirational stories. Appetizers and shopping boutiques will be available at 6 p.m. Registration is required by Oct. 29.
