PITTSBURGH (AP) – A Pittsburgh-area security firm that says it’s still owed $211,000 is challenging a judge’s decision to greenlight the sale of the financially strapped August Wilson Center for African American Culture.
The Post-Gazette reports Friday (https://bit.ly/1tiHFPt ) that International Investigative Services is appealing Allegheny County Judge Lawrence O’Toole’s ruling to the state Superior Court.
O’Toole had held up the sale for a day after the Bethel Park firm objected, arguing it was being shut out while a court-appointed receiver and her assistants were being paid $590,000 and union stagehands were paid more than $33,000 they were owed.
A lawyer for the firm says they’re not trying to derail the sale to the Pittsburgh Foundation, Heinz Endowments and Richard King Mellon Foundation, but the property could face sheriff’s sale if they prevail.

DEP fines water authority for not disinfecting
WILKINSBURG, Pa. (AP) – The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has fined a water authority serving one of Pittsburgh’s poorest suburbs $114,000 for not properly disinfecting its water in November.
The Wilkinsburg-Penn Join Water Authority didn’t immediately comment on the fine announced Friday.
But DEP officials say in a news release that nine workers will each receive 15 hours of training because they allegedly didn’t know they were required to maintain a certain level of disinfectant in their water.
DEP spokesman John Poister says the fine is the largest in 20 years in southwestern Pennsylvania under the agency’s Safe Drinking Water Program.
The authority didn’t adequately disinfect its water on 15 occasions last November, and didn’t promptly report the lapses to the DEP or the authority’s 120,000 customers.
