The Jazz Series
MCG Jazz presents “The Jazz Series” exhibit from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild, 1815 Metropolitan St., Manchester. The visual art exhibit by artist Elena Hiatt Houlihan, includes nine large scale pieces of acrylic paint on canvas or enamel on steel with collaged elements of handmade Japanese paper. In the collection there is a piece with a Pittsburgh connection; one of Houlihan’s pieces was inspired by a performance of legendary jazz artist Roger Humphries. The exhibit will be showcased weekdays through Dec. 15 and on weekends during scheduled MCG Jazz concerts. For more information, visit www.mcgjazz.org.

Queens of the Blues
New Horizon Theater Inc. presents “Queens of the Blues” at 3 p.m. at Maker Theater, 5950 Ellsworth Ave., Shadyside. “Queens of the Blues” is written by Sanetta Gipson and Joe Plummer, and directed by Plummer. Pitt Jazz Concert
The University of Pittsburgh presents the 44th Annual Jazz Gala Concert at 8 p.m. at the Carnegie Music Hall, 4400 Forbes Ave., Oakland. The unique, one-night only concert will include performances by nationally renowned jazz artist such as trombonist Clifton Anderson, drummer Terri Lyne Carrington, jazz alto saxophonist Tia Fuller, tenor saxophonist Joe Lovano, bassist and vocalist Esperanza Spalding, and the vocal a cappella jazz ensemble Afro Blue. Sound Dance
Break the Floor Productions presents “Shaping Sound: Dance Reimagined” at 4 p.m. at The Palace Theatre, 21 W. Otterman St., Greensburg. Shaping Sound is a Los Angeles dance company that focuses on contemporary dance and choreographic artistry The evening’s show will give the audience access to a greater understanding of dance through a fusion of jazz, modern and hip-hop choreography.
