For professional wrestler Jay Flash, a return to the Pittsburgh ring is imminent. On April 13, during a match in West Virginia, the “South Beach Soldier” blew out his ankle. The accident was ghastly for the 26 year old, as he was clearly destined for a bright future.
Since his debut in the Keystone State Wrestling Alliance (KSWA) on February 20, 2010, Flash has been a huge fan favorite. Although he lost that first “Gauntlet Match” with several other rookies to “Dr. Devastation” Lou Martin, Flash has had his hand raised many times.
On December 3, 2011 Flash earned his first taste of championship gold when he defeated the “Baddest Man in the Company,” Bobby Badfingers for the Golden Triangle Championship. In his only successful title defense, he would beat Drew Belanger. He would lose the belt to The Blood Beast in a Triple Threat Match that also included Mitch Napier on April 28, 2012. Flash would lose fair and square in the middle of the ring, but his taste for KSWA gold would only intensify. He would lose a couple of shots at the 5-Star Championship later in the year, but he’d continue moving forward.
At FanFest 2012, Flash and teammate “Ice Man” Tony Johnson bested the Mercenaries—“Nasty” Nick Crane and Sniper—and propelled themselves into the tag team title hunt. On March 23, 2013 he and Johnson won the 6th Annual Joe Abby Memorial tag team tournament. Part way through 2013, Johnson left the KSWA and Flash continued on winning ways with other Megastars. When Johnson returned in August as the “Mystery” partner, the team was victorious. Flash, sometimes with Johnson, would ride a winning streak for the rest of 2013.
However, the team of Flash and Johnson could never beat any KSWA Tag Team Champions along the way. Then on March 29, 2014, the team would be defeated again by Tyler Cross and Edric Everhart for the titles.
Then the ankle injury grounded the high-flying, electrifying personality. Despite the injury, the fitness buff has continued to work hard at rehabilitation and his return to the Pittsburgh wrestling scene. As a result of hard work, he bounced back quicker than expected. Recently, he returned to the ring with a local federation near his home in Ohio.
He could also be seen recently on Ring of Honor (ROH) wrestling TV as an unnamed member of the “Security Team.” In one clip, he was unceremoniously tossed into a ringside barricade by an irate villain. In the other, he quickly came to the aid of another wrestler who was attacked back stage, moments before he was supposed to wrestle on TV.
But now Flash is set to return to Pittsburgh and the KSWA on December 6 as part of FanFest/Toy Drive 2014! Flash will re-team with Johnson and challenge along with two other teams for the KSWA tag team championship. The belts are currently held by the largest team in Pittsburgh wrestling history: the 660 pound team of “Big” Mike Malachi and the 7-foot-tall Jack Massacre.
The other combatants in the Four Corners Match are System Elite—Tyler Cross and Edric Everhart—as well as “The Double D’s” Del Douglas and “Dr. Devastation” Lou Martin. Johnson and Flash are the only Megastars in the match to have not held KSWA tag team gold at any time and they hope this match changes all of that.
The tag team match is a part of an enormous card that also features a “Legend v. Legend” match with Lord Zoltan v. The Honky Tonk Man. Another former WWE superstar, Hacksaw Jim Dugan, will face off with “Nasty” Nick Crane for a “USA v. Canada” showdown. KSWA World Champion Shane Starr will defend against Battle Bowl contract winner J-Ru. Several other matches are scheduled as well.
Fans are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to FanFest/Toy Drive, at the Teamster Temple, 4701 Butler Street in Lawrenceville. Since 2009, the KSWA has held donate tens of thousands of toys to needy youth through the Allegheny County Holiday Project.
