PITTSBURGH (AP) – Democrat Rich Fitzgerald says he’s running for a second four-year term as Allegheny County executive.
So far, nobody else has come forward to say they’ll challenge Fitzgerald in either next year’s May primary or the November general election.
Gov.-elect Mike Wolf appeared with Fitzgerald at a union hall on Pittsburgh’s South Side for Thursday night’s announcement.
Fitzgerald played a key role in getting county Democrats to endorse Wolf.
Fitzgerald’s budgets have kept property taxes flat and the county’s bond rating has improved three times since he was first elected.
He has feuded with County Controller Chelsa Wagner, who accused him of misusing his county-issued vehicle for personal and political errands. Fitzgerald gave up the vehicle and wrote a check for more than $42,000 to reimburse the county for every mile he drove.
