PITTSBURGH, PA – The City of Pittsburgh Public Safety Department announced the hiring of Taylor L. Sumansky as the Supervisor for Animal Care & Control.
Sumansky, a native of Rockland County, New York, who now lives in Brookline, has been on the job since October 6, 2014.
“Pittsburgh is already known as the nation’s most livable city. I am very excited to help bolster that title by continuing to make Pittsburgh an animal friendly community through progressive initiatives such as the free spay and neuter program, as well as supervising the enforcement of the City’s laws that ensure the humane treatment of animals,” says Sumansky. “Beginning in 2015, look for some very exciting animal related education and outreach programs for City residents. I look forward to partnering with local rescue agencies and national organizations to ensure Pittsburgh’s future as the nation’s most livable city for animals, too.”
She holds a bachelor degree in management of Humane Leadership from Duquesne University and an associate degree in veterinary technology from Bel-Rea Institute in Denver, Colorado.
Sumansky has worked as a medical wellness liaison with Animal Friends and a shelter manager with Western PA Human Society. She has been a licensed veterinary technician since 2001.
