PITTSBURGH (AP) – A Pittsburgh community activist awaiting trial in March on charges he and his family made more than 100 unnecessary 911 calls last year has been jailed because police say they’ve responded to 15 similar calls in recent days.
Allegheny County Judge Anthony Mariani called the situation “a huge public safety threat” before revoking 38-year-old Abdula “A.J” Richardson’s bond on Wednesday.
Richardson and his wife, Felicia, were charged in April with multiple counts of criminal conspiracy and making false reports.
Police say they spent more than $11,000 investigating and responding to the earlier bogus calls.
The Richardsons have denied making the calls and his wife on Wednesday claimed the recent calls are being “spoofed” – that is, made by someone else but electronically disguised to appear as though they’re coming from their home.
