PITTSBURGH (AP) – Police have charged a Pittsburgh man they say fatally shot a teenager who was expected to testify for the prosecution at his brother’s attempted homicide case.
Charles Stevens is jailed without bail on charges of homicide, conspiracy to commit criminal homicide and a weapon violation in the July 17 death of Naytel Pack.
The 22-year-old’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 9.
Pack died after being shot multiple times in Nelson Mandela Peace Park in Pittsburgh’s Garfield neighborhood.
Police say Stevens told another person he walked into the park and fired five shots but wasn’t sure how many struck Pack.
The 17-year-old was expected to testify at Tarue Johnson’s trial in August. Police say he witnessed Johnson shoot 15-year-old Henderson Reese in February.
Cops: 1 dead in robbery-shooting during video game
NORTH BRADDOCK, Pa. (AP) – Police were still trying to sort out the details and get information from uncooperative witnesses after one man was fatally shot and another wounded, reportedly while playing video games at a home near Pittsburgh.
Allegheny County police say one witness reports that several young men were playing the games at a home in North Braddock Monday evening when some of them tried to rob the others.
Police say 25-year-old Kierre (KEE’-ayr) Simmons, of Pittsburgh, died and another man suffered wounds that weren’t life-threatening.
The shooting was reported about 6:40 p.m. and police arrived to find the victims and several people who gave conflicting accounts of the event or who would not cooperate. Several were taken into custody and questioned, but police had not reported filing any charges by late Tuesday morning.
Police: Brothers faces charges after 1 hit by train
HOMESTEAD, Pa. (AP) – Police say two brothers will faces trespassing charges after one of them was grazed by a passing freight train as they crossed some railroad tracks near Pittsburgh.
Homestead police weren’t immediately identifying the men Tuesday, and didn’t immediately return a call for comment.
But police tell reporters one of the men was hit in the head by the Norfolk Southern train and taken to a hospital for treatment and was expected to survive. Police say alcohol may have been involved in the incident just before 3:30 p.m. Monday.
The accident halted train traffic in the area, which jammed roads as vehicles could not cross the railroad tracks at several points in the borough a few miles east of Pittsburgh along the Monongahela River.
Police name man believed shot to death in home
NEW CASTLE, Pa. (AP) – State police have released the name of a man found dead in a western Pennsylvania home, but have yet to confirm that he was shot as first reported.
Troopers from New Castle say the dead man is 25-year-old Joseph Pagley III.
Police were called after friends discovered the man’s body about 11:30 p.m. Sunday at a home in Neshannock Township. That’s about 45 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.
Results of an autopsy were not immediately available, and the Lawrence County coroner did not immediately return a call Tuesday.
Police spokesman Trooper Dan Kesten says Pagley had wounds to his head, but police aren’t releasing details after first reporting Monday that it appeared Pagley had been shot.
Police haven’t arrested anyone, but say it appears Pagley was “targeted” and that nobody else is in danger.
BELTZHOOVER HOME INVASION, SHOOTING UNDER INVESTIGATION
PITTSBURGH, PA – Pittsburgh Police Zone 3 is investigating a home invasion in which one of the victims was shot by the actors.
At approximately 2:23 a.m., police were notified that shots had been fired near the intersection of Taft Avenue and Climax Street. While responding to that location, Officers came across a car speeding away from they area. 911 dispatch informed Officers the vehicle contained two victims from the scene and that one had been shot. The car went to UPMC Mercy where the 22-year-old male victim is in critical condition with a gunshot wound to an upper leg.
The home invasion occurred at a home on Industry Street between Taft Avenue and Laverne Street. According to the investigation, four armed black males forced entry through the front door. A struggle ensued and shots were fired between the actors and the residents. Home at the time was an older female and three adult males.
Two of the actors fled out of the front door and two fled out the back. At this time, it is not known if any of the actors were injured.
Four weapons were recovered – three at the scene including an AK-47 and two firearms. A fourth firearm was located in a nearby back yard.
The investigation continues.
