Small Business Basics
    JAN. 17—Chatham University’s Center for Women’s Entrepreneurship and SCORE Pittsburgh will host its Small Business Basics Workshop from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at Chatham University, Mellon Board Room, Woodland Rd., Shadyside. This workshop is for women interested in starting their own business or expanding their current one. Industry experts will be on hand to discuss business planning, financing, bookkeeping, marketing and legal issues pertaining to small businesses. This is an informal event. Registration is required. Brown Bag Lunch Series
    JAN. 21—Volunteers of America will host its Brown Bag Lunch Series from 12-1 p.m. at Volunteers of America, 1650 Main St., Pittsburgh. The topic is “It’s Tax Time! Are You Ready?” Anthony Beresford of Accounting for Taxes will facilitate the workshop and will discuss tips that will help to lower one’s tax preparation bill, how to be an active participant in the tax preparation process, how to control one’s finances, and the ins and outs of preparing for tax season that can result in more profit, less taxes and total peace of mind. First Step    
    JAN. 24—The Duquesne University Small Business Development Center will host “The First Step: Startup Essential” from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Duquesne University, Rockwell Hall, 600 Forbes Ave., Pittsburgh. This session is designed for new business startups and entrepreneurs. Attendees will learn about business structure and formation, insurance, government, procurement, financing options, major components of the business plan, taxation, requirements and more. Creating A Professional Demeanor
    JAN. 30—Dale Carnegie Training will host “Creating a Professional Demeanor: How to Look, Act and Sound Like A Professional” from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 164 Fort Couch Rd., South Hills. Attendees will learn the skills needed to project a professional demeanor, stand out from the crowd, get notices and get promoted.
Inclusion Series
    FEB. 11—Vibrant Pittsburgh will host its Inclusion Best Practices Series from 7:30-9:30 a.m. at Point Park University, Lawrence Hall, 212 Wood St., Downtown. The event will feature a discussion with Nigel Telman, partner at Proskauer Rose LLP and leader of Proskauer’s Midwest Employment & Labor Practices. The topic of the series will be “Understanding the Difference Between Affirmative Action and Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives-A Practical Approach.” The series will feature high-profile companies who will share their stories and best practices on a range of diversity and inclusion topics.
