JUPITER, Fla. (AP) — Tiger Woods is starting the year at the Phoenix Open, the rowdiest event on the PGA Tour and one Woods hasn’t played in 14 years.
Woods also announced on his website he will play the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines a week later.
Even in just three appearances at the Phoenix Open, Woods has managed to generate plenty of news. He made a hole-in-one on the 16th hole, perhaps the loudest hole in golf. A fan threw an orange onto the green the last time he played in 2001. And he had fans help him move a massive boulder that was determined to be a “loose impediment.”
Woods brings a big buzz wherever he plays, though Phoenix doesn’t need it. The Super Bowl is in town that week.
