Arrest made in 3 armed street robberies

PITTSBURGH, PA – Gene Brown, 18, of the Upper Hill, has been arrested in connection with three recent armed street robberies.
Brown was arrested January 12 at approximately 3:30 p.m. as part of an undercover operation by Pittsburgh Police Narcotics and the U.S. Marshals Western Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force. The arrest was made during a traffic stop in the 6000 block of Shakespeare Street. According to the investigation, he was a passenger during a jitney trip and there were six packages of crack cocaine recovered.
In addition to three counts of robbery, Brown’s charges include possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and criminal use of communication.
The three robberies for which Brown was wanted occurred in December 2014 in Zone 2. They were:

  • December 14 near the intersection of Bryn Mawr Road and Iowa Street at approximately 10 p.m.
  • December 27 in the 2300 block of Reed Street at approximately 11:50 p.m.
  • December 28 near the intersection of Centre Avenue and Francis Street at approximately 8:38 a.m.
