PowerBreakfast Meeting
JAN. 16—The African American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania will host its PowerBreakfast Meeting at 7:30 a.m. at One Oxford Centre. 301 Grant St., Downtown. The guest speaker will be Allegheny County Executive Richard Fitzgerald. He will discuss his administration’s accomplishments in Allegheny County over the past year as well as plans for this year. Small Business Basics
JAN. 17—Chatham University’s Center for Women’s Entrepreneurship and SCORE Pittsburgh will host its Small Business Basics Workshop from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at Chatham University, Mellon Board Room, Woodland Rd., Shadyside. This workshop is for women interested in starting their own business or expanding their current one. Industry experts will be on hand to discuss business planning, financing, bookkeeping, marketing and legal issues pertaining to small businesses. This is an informal event. Registration is required. Communications Workshop
JAN. 21—The Business Institute of the African American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania will host a Communications Workshop from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Koppers Building, 436 Seventh Ave., Downtown. Robert Hill, PhD, former vice chancellor of Public Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh, will facilitate this workshop designed to help individuals improve their communication skills, write a proposal for inter-cultural networking and gain effective techniques for conducting business. Brown Bag Lunch Series
JAN. 21—Volunteers of America will host its Brown Bag Lunch Series from 12-1 p.m. at Volunteers of America, 1650 Main St., Pittsburgh. The topic is “It’s Tax Time! Are You Ready?” Anthony Beresford of Accounting for Taxes will facilitate the workshop and will discuss tips that will help to lower one’s tax preparation bill, how to be an active participant in the tax preparation process, how to control one’s finances, and the ins and outs of preparing for tax season that can result in more profit, less taxes and total peace of mind.
