The Holiday celebrations are over, but the memories linger on for months. The dancing, food and festivities of the Alpha Wives yuletide party will be remembered.
On Dec. 7, 2014, at The Wooden Nickel Restaurant and Banquet Room, the Alpha Wives of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Alpha Omicron Lambda Chapter Auxiliary hosted a great evening.
Guests enjoyed fellowship and met Dr. Nan (Rachel) Poole, author of “The Girl With Green Bean Hair.” Here is what has been published about the author; “Dr. Nan” went to school a long time until she became a registered nurse and doctor of counseling. She worked hard and was successful as a hospital and college nurse. “The Girl with Green Bean Hair” is Dr. Nan’s first children’s book.
She was 82 years old when she dreamt she was a young girl with green bean hair. She was so excited about the dream that she decided to write a book about it. She was so happy that she remembered everything that happened in her dream. Being young again, even for one night in a dream, seemed like a magical gift.
Dr. Monica Lamar, principal of Dilworth Academy, and Dr. Dara Ware Allen, Alpha Wives President, introduced Dr. Nan to the group.
The students at Dilworth Academy have collectively read over 24,000 books and the Alpha Wives donated copies of Dr. Nan’s book to their library. After a wonderful dinner that included the Wooden Nickel’s signature crab cakes it was time for some fun. The group was broken up into groups and each group had to perform a holiday song, the best group won exquisite gifts of chocolate.
Deejay Eugene Williams provided the soundtrack. The 2014 Alpha Wives Social Committee included: Valerie Cousar, Dorothy Fisher, Mary Jenkins, Lee Nicklos and Barbara Russell.
