Delta cancels 600 flights; airlines combined cancel 2500 nationwide

Delta Airlines has announced they have cancelled up to 600 flights in anticipation of the extreme winter weather in the upper Northeast coming on Monday evening and Tuesday.
Nationwide, airlines have cancelled 3,500 flights overall.
According to weather forecasters, the storm could dump between 2 to 3 feet of snow in some areas. A blizzard warning has been issued for New York and Boston, USA Today reports.
Airlines have grounded 1,851 flights for Monday and another 1,707 for Tuesday, according to FlightAware. Carriers are waiving change fees for flights at many airports across the region. Some are offering refunds.
Delta said a “historic” blizzard expected to hit the East Coast, an airline spokesman told Reuters.
Delta issued a waiver for ticket holders for Monday and Tuesday flights, allowing them to reschedule itineraries for any flight through Jan. 30.
