
PANERA BREAD FRANCHISEE, COVELLI ENTERPRISES announced the winners of its Third Annual Martin Luther King Jr. writing contest and leadership award honorees.
The review committee thoroughly enjoyed reading the many entries and found great challenge in narrowing down the submission to the Top Three Winners and Leadership Award Honorees.
WINNERS: 1st Place: Javon Collins—“I Have Decided,” Pittsburgh Taylor Allderdice High School. 2nd Place: Jazmyne Kenney- “Praying for Fish,” Pittsburgh CAPA High School. 3rd Place: Khalil Harper—“The True Making of A Man,” Penn Hills High School.
LEADERSHIP AWARD HONOREES: Deja Green—Pittsburgh Westinghouse High School; Erion Morton —Pittsburgh Allderdice High School; Davion Taylor—Pittsburgh Obama High School; and Jade Carter—Pittsburgh Westinghouse High School.
“We have accomplished much since Dr. King’s death, and so many of those great strides are a result of the passion and energy that these honorees, as well as their classmates, inspire in their parents, teachers, and communities,” Panera Bread representative, K. Chase Patterson said. “Covelli Enterprises is extremely proud to encourage and support this year’s writing contest awardees, which have done the legacy of Dr. King a great service.”
Panera Bread wants to thank this year’s recipients and their families for their hard work and dedication to honoring the legacy of an American Treasure, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The awards presentations and reading took place on Jan. 17, during a breakfast reception at the Panera Bread Shadyside Café, located at 5430 Centre Ave.
