YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) — Eastern Michigan’s women’s basketball team has rescheduled Saturday’s road game with Miami so players can attend the funeral of a teammate who died in a car crash.
The game will take place at 6 p.m. Feb. 17 in Oxford, Ohio.
Twenty-one-year-old junior forward Shannise Heady of Hazel Crest, Illinois, was killed Jan. 25 in a car accident in Washtenaw County’s Ypsilanti (ihp-sih-LAN’-tee) Township, just west of campus. The crash also killed her passenger, 23-year-old Eastern Michigan student Jordan Hopkins of Dexter.
The team plans to pay tribute to Heady throughout the season by wearing patches with her No. 32 on their jerseys.
The Eagles’ men’s and women’s teams have honored Heady at recent games.
