Community Discussion
FEB. 7—The Homewood Neighborhood Advisory Board on Urban Affairs will host a Community Discussion on “Getting Ready for Community Benefits” from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Community Empowerment Association, 7120 Kelly St., Homewood. This discussion is part of “The People’s Plan for Homewood.” Ruth Byrd-Smith will instruct the community business owners and prospective new business owners how to complete the certification process. African-American Heritage Celebration
FEB. 7—Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum Trust Inc. will host its 5th Annual African-American Heritage Celebration, “Black Veterans With Success: Their History, Health and Commitment to Excellence,” at 1 p.m. at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum, Gettysburg Room, 4141 Fifth Ave., Oakland. There will be a panel discussion; a question and answer session about VA health care and other specific military health related issues; and an exhibit, “Slave to Soldier,” showcasing the importance of the historical legacy of African-American soldiers.
