The 16-year-old boy is charged with homicide and a firearms count in the death of 16-year-old Ryan Mangan, who was found Wednesday evening in his Jeannette home.
Police were contacted by the mother of another boy who said he’d received a photo showing the suspect with the victim after he’d been shot, and also received text messages from the suspect saying “Told you I cleaned up the shells” and “Ryan was not the last one.”
Westmoreland County District Attorney John Peck tells the Pittsburgh Tribune Review that the photo “was a key piece of evidence that led investigators to the defendant.”
Trial ordered for man in death of 5½-month-old girl
PITTSBURGH (AP) – A western Pennsylvania man has been ordered to stand trial in what authorities allege was the beating death of his girlfriend’s infant daughter.
Twenty-nine-year-old Kenneth Reeves is charged in Allegheny County with homicide, aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
Prosecutors allege that he beat 5½-month-old Kamero Newton, who was declared brain-dead and removed from life support Dec. 6.
The girl’s mother testified at Friday’s preliminary hearing that she left the child asleep upstairs with Reeves but later heard her cry out.
Defense attorney Christopher Patarini questioned portions of the autopsy results and the timing of the child’s brain injuries and was told that the onset of symptoms would have been rapid.
Reeves was on probation after pleading guilty in the 2013 beating of a 3-year-old boy.
