HOMESTEAD—A fundraiser, hosted by ANEW Community Institute, was held on Jan. 31 for the victims of the calamitous six-alarm fire in Homestead’s main commercial district that took place days earlier. It left nine people homeless, two hospitalized and five buildings damaged.
The event was held at Stay Tuned Distillery, a small batch craft distillery located at the historic John Munhall Neighborhood House, 810 Ravine St, in Munhall.

Entertainment included folk singer Anne Feeney and reggae tunes by Uzell Finney Jr. and Pittsburgh’s Flow Band.
ANEW Community Institute President Maryellen Deckard had originally intended to host her birthday party fundraiser to benefit the Institute itself, but changed the focus of the event due to the emergency.

“Homestead is our home and our community and ANEW is in the business of building community and coalitions of community. I felt compelled to use this event to help our neighbors in their time of need,” Deckard remarked.
