MARCH 6—The Small Business Development Center at the University of Pittsburgh will host its “The First Step: The Mechanics of Starting a Small Business” from 7:30-10 a.m. at the University of Pittsburgh, Mervis Hall, Roberto Clemente Drive, Oakland. This session is designed for new business startups and entrepreneurs. Attendees will learn about business structure and formation, insurance, government, procurement, financing options, major components of the business plan, taxation, requirements and more. Social Media Series
MARCH 6—The Duquesne University Small Business Development Center will host its “Social Media Series: Developing A Plan of Attack” from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at Duquesne University, Rockwell Hall, 600 Forbes Ave., Uptown. This is the first of three sessions in the series. This session, along with the series, is designed for business-to-business and business-to-consumer organizations that want to learn the simple steps for creating a social media plan and the best tools for their specific market. Structuring Sales Calls
MARCH 11—The Business Institute of the African American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania will host its “Structuring the Sales Calls” Workshop from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Koppers Building, Board Room, 436 Seventh Ave., Downtown. This workshop will assist individuals with structuring their sales calls. The facilitator will discuss the process—from establishing a relationship with the potential client to closing the deal. MARCH. 12—The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host its Lunch & Learn Series at 12:15 p.m. at the Downtown & Business Branch, 612 Smithfield St., Downtown. The topic will be “Last Minute Filing Tips.” Diana Smith, IRS tax consultant, will be on hand to provide advice and guidance for last minute filers. Women Breakfast Series
MARCH 13—Chatham University’s Center for Women’s Entrepreneurship will host its Women Business Leaders Breakfast Series from 8-9:30 a.m. at Chatham University, James Laughlin Music Hall, Woodland Rd., Shadyside. Jo Ellen Parker, president of the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, will speak on the topic, “A Good Enough Bad Business: The Entrepreneurial Nonprofit.” The Breakfast Series features prominent regional women business leaders speaking on a variety of progressive business topics. Casual networking and a continental breakfast precede engaging and interactive presentations on topics essential for women in business such as innovative entrepreneurship, strategic business growth, unique marketing strategies, and logistical business planning.
