Zone 6 issues theft from auto warning to Brookline residents

PITTSBURGH, PA – The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Zone 6 is investigating approximately 27 thefts from auto incidents that have occurred in Brookline since February.
These incidents have been occurring between midnight and 6 a.m., and have been concentrated around the lower part of the neighborhood.
Detectives are aggressively investigating these cases, but need the help of the community. In the majority of these incidents, the vehicle was left unlocked with the valuables left in plain sight.
The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police requests that if you have been a victim, please call 911 to report the incident. Anyone with information regarding who may be responsible for these crimes, is encouraged to call Zone 6 plainclothes Detectives at 412-937-3051.
The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police recommends that residents:
Park in a well-lit area.
Lock all car doors and close all windows.
Remove valuables from the passenger compartment and items that are in plain sight, such as GPS units, satellite radios, laptops, cell phones, briefcases, bags, prescription medication, clothing, shoes, checkbooks, wallets and purses.
Lock your glove box and any internal compartments.
Never leave extra car keys inside of the vehicle. Thieves often know where to find these.
Never leave a firearm inside of a vehicle.
Activate your alarm or have an alarm system installed by a professional.

1600 block of Bellaire Place: On 2/4/15 an unknown actor entered victim’s unlocked vehicle and removed tools, cigarettes and prescription medication
1900 block of Altmar Street: On 2/4/15 an unknown actor entered victim’s possibly unlocked vehicle and removed a wallet and currency
1600 block of Bellaire Place: On 2/6/15 an unknown actor entered victim’s unlocked vehicle and stole an iPad
1500 block of Greencrest Drive: On 2/17/15 an unknown actor entered victim’s unlocked vehicle and removed gift cards and currency
1600 block of Reamer Street: On 2/17/15 an unknown actor forced open victim’s parked vehicle and removed a gift card and sunglasses.
1600 block of Bellaire Place: On 3/15/15 an unknown actor stole a key and GPS from victim’s unlocked vehicle
2000 block of Jacob Street: On 3/16/15 an unknown actor entered victim’s locked vehicle in an unknown manner and removed currency before fleeing
1700 block of Eben Street: On 3/22/15 an unknown actor entered his unlocked vehicle and removed a key, backpack and a laptop
2000 block of Moredale Street: On 3/22/15 an unknown actor stole a purse and electronics from a locked vehicle
1700 block of Hallowell Street: On 3/22/15 an unknown actor stole a wallet containing ID and credit card from victim’s unlocked vehicle
