The world largest child pop star is now a man. Celebrating his 21st birthday at the beginning of March was only one of the milestones to commemorate Justin Bieber’s coming of age.
Last night, Comedy Central premiered his official roast and you can’t have a roast without dais. The Comedy Central Roast of Justin Bieber included dais Hannibal Buress, Chris D’Elia, Snoop Dogg, Natasha Leggero, Ludacris, Shaquille O’Neal, Jeff Ross, Martha Stewart and Roast Master Kevin Hart– not to mention a special appearance by Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell).
Roast Master Kevin Hart was on fire with his no holds bar comedy of naturally, fresh off the dome rips. From accusing Martha Stewart of using the “n” word to criticizing Snoop Dogg’s outdated fashion, the Get Hard costar brought me to tears.
Of course, Hart kicked off the show with some of Bieber’s career highs like his 2010 hit single, “Baby”, which still has the most views on YouTube and his $200 million multi-faceted career. But, he also could not go without mentioning Bieber’s many run ins with the law and outlandish acts of random trouble.
Actually most roasters picked fun at his previous bad choices all night. They also added the obvious jokes about his lesbian look, which consisted of medium length slick back hair and a tight royal blue and black suit. He looked just like Ellen Degeneres at an awards show.
Even with the typical Bill Cosby shots and a record number of African American men on stage, it was west coast rapper Snoop Dogg who received the worst scrutiny besides the man of the hour. Uncle Snoop was called “my aunt’s favorite rapper”, “a retired WNBA player”, and “Shaq’s skeleton”. The night was brutal.
For me, another big part of the show were the guests. While they did not have speaking parts, Comedy Central thought it wise to keep cutting the camera to the same four people– Kendall Jenner, who had rumors of dating Bieber; John Legend’s wife, Chrissy Teigen, who has the face of swollen orange marshmallows; Jaden Smith, who I believe was under the influence of something that would cause him to keep randomly standing up; and the best comedian of all time, Dave Chappelle.
The night came to an appropriate close when Justin Bieber made a heartfelt, serious speech at the end of the roast. Bieber sincerely apologized for his behavior and made a plea to be a better person. “Thank you God for your grace and never giving up on me.”
