The Gathering
APRIL 4—Stop the Violence—Pittsburgh will host “The Gathering: Pittsburgh’s Celebration of Life” Black Tie Fundraiser from 6-10 p.m. at the Rivers Club, One Oxford Centre, 301 Grant St., Downtown. The event, which will raise funds for the 2015 Community Awareness Day, will include a red carpet event, an awards ceremony to honor those who work to bring awareness to and combat homicides in the community, and a fashion show. State Rep. Ed Gainey will be the master of ceremonies and Dr. Larry Davis, University of Pittsburgh professor, will be the keynote speaker. Women Who Make A Difference
APRIL 9—The Zonta Club of Pittsburgh will host its 2015 Women Who Make A Difference Award Dinner at 6 p.m. at the Rivers Club, One Oxford Centre, 301 Grant St., Downtown. This year’s Woman Who Makes a Difference honoree is Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Assistant Chief Maurita Bryant. The annual award is presented to women who have excelled in a male-dominated field. 10-Day Festival
APRIL 16—The Thomas Merton Center will host its 10-Day Festival Commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of Thomas Merton. The celebratory event will honor the life commitment of author, poet Thomas Merton and his impact on promoting the goal of peace and justice. The 10-day event, which will run through April 26, will include a poetry reading, a documentary showing of “We Are All immigrants,” a forum and more. Bartko Foundation Luncheon
APRIL 18—The Bartko Foundation will host its Irene’s Dream Luncheon & Boutique Shopping from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Fairmont Hotel, 510 Market St., Downtown. Young, Gifted & Black
APRIL 18—The Young, Gifted & Black Program will host its 8th Annual “Young, Gifted & Black” Awards at 12:30 p.m. at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel, 101 Mall Plaza Blvd., Monroeville. The event recognizes young adults for their outstanding commitment and service to their community and profession. The keynote speaker will be William Neal, CEO of Achieving Greatness Inc., and the mistress of ceremonies will be Niecy Dennis-White, president of Workforce Development Global Alliance. Free Tax Preparation Services
ONGOING—The Hazelwood, Homewood and McKeesport YMCA Branches will host its “Hope For All” Free Tax Preparation Services at its branches. The program, which provides financially vulnerable families with advice and assistance on becoming more stable, will offer free help with filing their taxes to residents in the Hazelwood, Homewood and McKeesport neighborhoods.
